So your period is late
Don't delay- if you think you could be pregnant do a test or make an appointment and we will do a urine test. For some people with certain medical conditions it is really important to get medical advice as soon as possible after the start of pregnancy. We are very happy to see you as soon as you find out you are pregnant.
ANTE-NATAL CARE
We are delighted to offer combined ante natal care to all of our pregnant patients. The Combined Ante Natal Care model is a service funded by the HSE and must be applied for at your first visit. Further information about this service is available on the HSE website. It involves nine planned visits, the first to confirm your pregnancy and the last is the six week check for you and your baby. It includes normal ante natal and early post natal care. We also monitor and treat pregnancy related complications such as raised blood pressure in cooperation with the hospital service. Unfortunately attendances for any other illnesses which arise during pregnancy (such as chest infections, kidney infections etc) will incur a cost for private patients.
Vaccines during pregnancy
It is now normal for all pregnant women to receive the annual Flu vaccine as early as possible in the pregnancy. Further information is available on the HSE website.
The pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is also given later in pregnancy, ideally between weeks 27 - 36 of pregnancy. Unfortunately this is not covered by the combined ante natal care scheme so there is a charge for administering this vaccine also. Further information is available on the HSE website.
